Passive crossovers for component speaker systems are very simple to install. They each go between your amplifier and a speaker and do not require a power connection, a turn-on lead, or grounding. You connect the speaker wire coming from your amp to the crossover's input. Then the tweeter gets wired to the tweeter output, and the woofer to the woofer output. That's it. The most challenging part of installing a passive crossover may be where to mount it, but most component crossovers are small enough to fit inside your car door near the woofer's location.
There's another kind of passive crossover, called in-line crossovers, which go between your receiver and amp. Another disadvantage of using them is that they react differently to different amplifiers, possibly changing their crossover points unpredictably. But since the door panel must have a hole large enough to hold the entire tweeter, you must perform more modifications than necessary for a surface-mounted installation.

If I am installing components where the crossovers are built into the tweeters, do I still need to run the tweeters off the terminals on the woofers? Omar, I doubt you have to worry about a reduction in sound quality, but the upgrade might not be that significant for you as the driver.
If you have a lot of passengers in the backseat and they aren't satisfied with the sound quality, then you could certainly consider it. But if you don't have any complaints about those rear speakers, it sounds like your current setup is a good one.

If someone sits back there regularly, they'd be the main beneficiary of a rear component system, and since there are factory tweeter locations already, you'll have less work to do during installation.
